This is obviously the House of our loved and heroic golden trio: Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, and Ron Weasley, and also from other significant characters, like Neville Longbottom and the Weasley family.

The Beauty of Gryffindor

Gryffindor is an amazing house and is the central focus of the Harry Potter stories. In my opinion, this house is so appealing to all of the fans not because we are all brave and heroic, but because it gave us, the misfits, a huge sense of belonging, and hope and also helped us discover the internal bravery that we thought we didn’t have.

Many of the Gryffindor students give the impression of being cowards at the beginning of their journey, such as Neville and Ron. They discover their bravery and their strength – that were hidden and locked within – through the adventures and challenges they have to face.

Even Harry Potter starts the book series feeling like a “nobody” because the Dursleys, who happen to be the only family he knows, make him see himself like that. Harry keeps his anger towards his family and life locked within himself, always being forced to accept abuses and humiliation, so he can have the minimum for survival, like a decent meal and a bed to sleep in. I bet a lot of you saw yourself in this situation: Feeling abused by those who should be taking care of you, but having to be grateful, after all, they are feeding you and keeping you under a roof.

Harry starts to give us hope when we perceive that repressed potential coming out in outbursts of fury and bravery that happen in situations where Harry is forced to put himself out there to save himself or his loved ones, and also when he is triggered by the Dursleys or Malfoy abuses and have outbreaks of anger. Major magical accidents always happen when he “loses it”, showing us how powerful the strength he has locked inside is. When he goes to Hogwarts, he can finally literally make the magic of being himself, transforming his conscience about who he thought he was, and, consequently, transforming the world around him, and becoming a true hero.

Ron was also invisible in his family, the youngest of 6 boys, which made him extremely insecure.

What I love most about Gryffindor House and its members is that they taught me, at a very early and crucial age, when I was 13, that we are not defined by what our family makes us think we are. There is a Hogwarts somewhere -out there and within-, for everyone. A magical place with special people, that will know how to explore our qualities, where we will feel that we belong and unlock our potential in the Journey.

Gryffindor taught me I wasn’t a nobody like I thought I was at 13. It motivated me to go find my inner strength and pursue my hero journey. We just have to be brave enough to go on that Express to a mysterious place.

I particularly love this dialogue in The Philosopher’s Stone between Harry, Ron, and Neville, which shows us so well how Gryffindors support each others’ strength, and how hard it is for some of them to see that strength.

“He is used to walk all over people, but that’s no reason to lie down in front of him and make it easier” said Ron.

“There is no need to tell me I’m not brave enough to be in Gryffindor. Malfoys already done that” Neville choked.

“You are worth twelve of Malfoy” said Harry. ” The Sorting Hat chose you for Gryffindor, didn’t it? And where is Malfoy? In stinking Slytherin”

There are all kinds of courage. It takes a great deal of bravery to stand up to our enemies, but just as much to stand up to our friends

Gryffindor Aesthetics

Okay now that we all remember the greatest traits of Gryffindor it is time to understand the imagery of this House. From the cozy vibes to the quidditch team to the color elements that you can use to channel your inner fear conqueror. The courageous element of a Gryffindor personality is analog to the element of fire and all its fuel and energy, which explains the red as the main color of the house.

The red and yellow colors also match perfectly the fall mood of reds and oranges, this is why the Gryffindor aesthetic is indeed the coziest one of the 4 houses.

Elements of the Gryffindor aesthetic: Holiday spiced candles, fire, Aries, classic looking motorcycle, campfires and marshmallows, hot food, cozy Christmas, boxer braids, coffee, red wine, the loudest ones, knit sweaters

Gryffindor’s Main Symbol: The Lion and the sword

They have a soft heart, but they know how to roar and attack when needed. For such lion-hearted folks, it is evident that the brave and impotent lion would be the animal that represents this house.

The Sword of Gryffindor was made a thousand years ago by goblins and owned by the Godric Gryffindor. The legendary sword was used by Harry to defeat the Basilisk

Popular Gryffindors

The Potter Family, the Weasley Family, Hermione Granger, Neville Longbottom, Hagrid, Dumbledore, Sirius Black and Minerva McGonagall are the most popular Gryffindor House Members.
