Why Are Tennis Bracelets So-Called?
Back in 1987 the legendary 18-time Grand Slam winner and three-time Wimbledon champ Chris Evert gave the World a free class on the power of iconic celebrities in marketing! She was already known as a fashion icon when she showed up flawlessly dressed, dark nail polish, with make-up on, a necklace, and a diamond eternity bracelet for the US Open. Her conscious choice to be as feminine, fashionable, and dressed up as she could be to play sports, was already groundbreaking. We all know how girls are historically not incentivized to play sports under the excuse that we’ll look masculine.
Unfortunately, I don’t know her, so I have no idea if it was a feminist statement or if she was simply being herself. And it doesn’t matter. Turns out, that during the game, she lost her bracelet and refused to keep playing until the piece was found. Well, the next day, women were calling their jewelry stores asking for the “tennis bracelet” because how can we not relate to this iconic woman?
So, what’s your favorite diamond tennis bracelet? I’m not big on bracelets or jewelry of any type nowadays, but in the past (my previous life as I like to call it), I was all about the bling. Tennis bracelets were amongst my everyday accessorizing. I used to combine it matching leather and cuff bracelets to create a monochromatic, but not-boring look! What about you? What’s your favorite use for tennis bracelets?
