Apparently, crochet tops, and crochet clothes in general, were a hot trend during my early teen years. Luckily my aunt is a crochet master queen, so I had my fair share of fashionable crochet clothes. Nowadays, there is well-deserved hype around craftsmanship and slow fashion, and crochet is all about it. So, in this post, I made a thorough selection of beautiful crochet tops, including handmade art pieces, machine-made, and crochet tops patterns for the craftsy.
Style-wise, crochet tops are more democratic than we think. Of course, the first style that comes to mind is boho-chic, with neutral maxi skirts and bell sleeves with a strong 70s aesthetic. But crochet tops can be very girly as well. Incorporate soft hues and pastel flowers and you’re in for a bucolic cottagecore aesthetic. Even high-end designers like Oscar de la Renta and Chloé are falling for the handmade crochet this year. Whatever is your style, you can find a crochet piece to suit your aesthetic, whether you’re a granola girl or a girl boss!

Slow fashion is one of the alternatives to fast fashion in the sense of a more human-friendly production chain and more durable non-disposable clothes. The slow fashion movement aims for conscious consumption and less fabric in landfills. If possible, prioritize ethically handmade pieces, natural fabrics, and small businesses.

What about you? Are you into crochet tops because it’s a hot trend or you are living a slow living life? I’m a mix. I always state that I’m a minimalist, I lived off-the-grid for a while but since moving back into urban society I’m trying to navigate stay true to my beliefs and also fulfill my aesthetic needs. Back in 2019, before the pandemic, I assisted a summer wedding in Paris with my fiance (“just friends” at the time, according to him). The whole event took place in a Chateau just outside of Paris and girl, I was just out of my off-the-grid life and I had no idea what to wear. So I asked my aunt to make a mini crochet dress, paired it with an old, but stunning, pair of Jimmy Choo’s (from before going off the grid) et voilá!
